It’s almost a fact: All good things come to an end, and tend to go by way too fast. Summer in Warwick- nights spent on Oakland Beach, or days at Goddard Park, could be mistaken for an exotic island adventure. Your find endless coastline, dogs playing in the sand, pink and orange sunsets as backdrop, and so much green everywhere. It’s an island oasis right in your backyard. Close to everything, yet a world a part. Your pal Nate here knows all about exotic vacations- I am quite the world traveler, but despite my adventures around the globe, both near and far- Warwick is my home. It i s the true essence of who I am. I am certain many of you feel as I do. So, while the days are still long, and the nights are still warm, let’s dive into (no pun intended) some of the best things we did in July, and what you can look forward to in August.
This July, you explored, and captured sunset after sunset. But not only that, you enjoyed a Rhode Island favorite: Iggy’s. Iggy’s at Oakland Beach is one of a kind. I cannot stop thinking about the menu that satisfies my every need! It’s famous for a reason. Iggy’s is the best. No need to explain.
You may not know this, but Iggy’s started in 1989 and for nearly 26 years has been impressing tourists, and locals alike with doughboys, clam cakes, and chowder. Now, in 2015, the menu consists of everything from burgers to ice cream.
As we build up an appetite, and think about the beautiful views of Narragansett Bay, I can’t forget to mention the Movies in the Park on July 30th. Anyone a fan of Happy Feet? Or what about the classic- Finding Nemo!? Finding Nemo will take place August 20th. For more information on these superb cinematic adventures presented by National Grid, head to their website: http://www.centralrichamber.com/3160/events/movies-in-the-park/
Take advantage of the time of year when you can watch moves outdoors! It’s a wonderful experience for the entire family. The Summer Concert series continues at Conimicut Point with the Jesse Liam Band.
Perhaps the most anticipated event is happening August 4th- National Night Out at Oakland Beach. Event starts at 5pm, and it’s free! It’s a fantastic opportunity Warwick takes each year to bring awareness to local, anti-crime programs, and put an emphasis on strengthening the safety in our city, and the relationship among community groups and law enforcement.
There will also be fireworks starting at 9 pm.
As we speak of entertainment, some of the most talented and creative individuals are right here in Warwick. If you haven’t been to The Ocean State Theatre, then now is the time. The company, offering professional regional theater, is conveniently located around the corner from the airport, and has plenty of parking. The Ocean State Pops Orchestra is coming August 15th, and there is still time to catch Gypsy before it closes on August 2nd! Purchase tickets here: http://www.oceanstatetheatre.org/tickets/gypsy/

So many things to do in Warwick, with still a lot of summer left! Well, I’m off to grab some clamcakes at Iggy’s- maybe we will run into each other! If not, be sure to tell them Nate sent you!
