Local vendors under colorful tents proudly displaying their handcrafted wares for sale. Acres of lush green grass for the kids to run around on, with breathtaking Narragansett Bay as the backdrop. A comfy blanket to stretch out on under a star-filled summer sky. Sinking your teeth into a delicious picnic dinner from home or food truck fare as you dine al fresco.  A refreshing breeze off the water to keep you cool. And, when darkness falls, a popular movie playing on a larger-than-life screen.

Sound like a great way to while away an evening with family and friends? Then be sure to mark your calendar for this summer’s “Movies in the Park”! Hosted by the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, these family-friendly events are a favorite summertime staple here in Warwick.

Grab a blanket or some chairs and head on down to Rocky Point State Park by 6 p.m. each night to grab your spot on the grassy field, which was once the midway of the former Rocky Point Amusement Park. Parking and admission are free!

In addition, every guest will receive a movie program, filled with movie information, Rocky Point trivia, and children’s activities. One lucky guest will receive a movie-themed prize pack, complete with the movie shown that night, compliments of Slocum Real Estate & Insurance!

The Warwick Department of Tourism and Economic Development is the proud sponsor of “Wicked” on Thursday, July 24. Starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Galinda, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, this Oscar-winning film - an adaptation of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” - explores the early relationship of Elphaba (who later becomes the Wicked Witch of the West) and Galinda (later known as Glinda the Good).

The showing of “Lilo & Stitch (2002)” on Thursday, August 14, is presented by Dave’s Fresh Marketplace. Relax and escape into the fantastical adventures of Lilo and Stitch, after Stitch, a runaway genetic experiment from a faraway planet, crash lands on Earth and befriends a little girl named Lilo. His mischievous spirit gets him into some trouble on the Hawaiian Islands, even as he learns about friendship, loyalty, and “ohana,” a tradition of the Hawaiian people. Sit back and enjoy the hijinks of Lilo and her adopted alien “puppy.”
